LAX and Alaska Airlines Help Travelers with Disabilities Learn What to Expect at the Airport and In Flight
(Los Angeles, CA) This morning, staff from Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) and Alaska Airlines welcomed more than 80 people for the "Ability to Fly" event at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The event provides a fun, safe and easy way for those with disabilities to experience how a commercial flight works and feels before traveling for real. This is the fourth mock flight experience at LAX, and the fifth hosted by LAWA.

LAX Celebrates World Music Day by Debuting Two Baby Grand Pianos for Passengers to Play
(Los Angeles, CA) In honor of World Music Day, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) held a musical celebration, "LAX Songs in the Key of Flight," in Terminal 7. As part of the event, airport officials also debuted two new Kawai G-40EP manual and self-playing baby grand pianos located in the Terminal 4 connector and on the Upper Level of Terminal 7.

LAWA Announces Justin Erbacci as COO, Organizational Changes to Support Modernization Program
(Los Angeles, CA) Today, Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) announced the appointment of Justin Erbacci as Chief Operating Officer, along with a number of other organizational realignments designed to emphasize implementation and delivery of the airport’s $14 billion modernization program. Erbacci’s appointment and the other changes, which are effective Aug. 5, come after current COO Samson Mengistu announced his retirement earlier this month following a 30-year career at the City of Los Angeles and more than 25 years at LAWA.

LAWA LAUNCHES BUILDLAX ACADEMY TO HELP LOCAL SMALL BUSINESS CONTRACTORS LEARN HOW TO BE SUCCESSFUL AT LAX
(Los Angeles, CA) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) is celebrating the launch of its inaugural BuildLAX Academy, a new program designed to prepare small contracting businesses for success when working on projects at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). With major construction programs now beginning or on the horizon as part of LAWA's multi-billion dollar capital improvement program, including the LAX Landside Access Modernization Program (LAMP) and the Midfield Satellite Concourse, LAWA's demand for contractors will increase the need for qualified contracting businesses. BuildLAX will help meet that need by helping contractors gain familiarity with LAWA's contracting procedures.

LAX Brings Couture Fashion Runway to Tom Bradley International Terminal
(Los Angeles, CA) Today, guests in Tom Bradley International Terminal at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) were wowed by a first-of-its-kind fashion show, spotlighting designs from international designer Sebastian Gunawan and featuring models and behind-the-scenes talent from the local area. The event featured 25 extravagant couture designs handpicked by Gunawan, a graduate of Los Angeles' Fashion Institute of Design and Marketing (FIDM).

HireLAX Apprenticeship Readiness Program Graduates Fifth Class, Registration Opens for Next Cohort
(Los Angeles, CA) Family and friends of graduates from the fifth HireLAX Apprenticeship Readiness Program's (ARP) class gathered today at Los Angeles Southwest College (LASC) to celebrate the completion of an eight-week apprenticeship readiness curriculum. Today’s 29 graduates, all of whom live in the City of Los Angeles or areas closely surrounding LAX, are now ready to pursue apprenticeships in the construction trades, which will allow them to be hired onto projects at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

Hands-Only CPR Kiosk Provides Travelers with Life-Saving Skills

LAX AUTOMATED PEOPLE MOVER TRAIN MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE FACILITY MOVES FORWARD AFTER STRUCTURE DEMOLITION
(Los Angeles, CA) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) took another step towards a fully connected Los Angeles International (LAX) airport this past week with the demolition of the last structure necessary to allow for the construction of the future Automated People Mover (APM) Maintenance and Storage Facility (M&SF). LAX Integrated Express Solution (LINXS), the developer of the APM – the centerpiece of LAWA’s Landside Access Modernization Program (LAMP) – successfully demolished a structure located at 9520 Belford Avenue. After demolition, non-hazardous and reclyable material were separated out to help divert waste from going to landfills.

LAX Power Update - Final
At 5:54 p.m. yesterday evening, the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power (LADWP) completed work to repair the primary power line for Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). All roadwork associated with power system repairs was completed at that time as well.

Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) is working closely with the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power (LADWP) to determine the exact cause and permanent fix for the power disruption that occurred at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Wednesday night.
